Phinizy Swamp Nature Park is named for an Italian entrepreneur who was the first Phinizy to settle in the area in 1778. Phinizy Swamp is an 1,100-acre Nature Park with a total area estimated to be about 7,000 acres. Changing over the years from a dump to reclaimed wetlands, the park has miles of hiking trails, bridges, and boardwalks across wetlands.
We saw cormorants, heron, and osprey adults and nest with chicks. The nest is atop a wind sheer warning tower. The park is near the local airport.
Dragonflies and butterflies were everywhere.
