Oak Mountain State Park, situated just outside of Birmingham, is the largest state park we have ever stayed in. There are miles of hiking, biking, and horseback trails. Just an aside, all of these trails are up the hill and down the hill. And if you are walking, be prepared.
Home of a Wildlife rehab center, there is also a tree top boardwalk with an aviary of rehabbed birds unable to live in the wild. On the walk, we came across a barred owl, a lizard, and a damsel fly. I'm always amazed at the root system of trees. The white bird in the top right photo is an albino vulture.
The top left photo is the barred owl we saw in the wild.
Our trek of another day was along part of the blue trail (there were red, yellow, and blue trails.) to a creek overlook. To describe the trail, think of rocks, roots, and rough. Also remember the up and downhill, there were lots of those!
