Oak Mountain Part Two

rvtramm75

We took a day out of the park to go into Birmingham to check out Vulcan. Vulcan, a cast iron statue towering over Birmingham, was built as Birmingham's contribution to the St. Louis World's Fair, cast in 1904. After a major renovation in the 90s, Vulcan reigns.

There is an interesting museum about Birmingham and its history adjacent to Vulcan's tower.

You can go up to the base of the statue, either by stairs or elevator. We took the elevator with glass walls, up and then out onto the observation deck. And then it hit me, I was too high off the ground and unable to walk. Leo walked around the deck and told me about the views. I agreed and we went down the elevator.

Close to Vulcan, is the Birmingham Botanical Garden. We walked through, suffering through the humidity.
