Farmer's Market
We went to the first Saturday Farmer's Market in Marquette. What makes a market fun is seeing the usual things here that would be so unusual in Texas.
I'll say this at the beginning. The weather is absolutely gorgeous. The nights are cool, the mornings are cool, the days are cool, etc.
Presque Isle
In the summer, of 1891, the city of Marquette asked Fredrick Law Olmsted, who designed New York City’s Central Park, to design a management plan to turn Presque Isle into a suitable park. His comments about the area were, don't touch it. The park, on a peninsula into Lake Superior, is home to miles of hiking/biking trails, beautiful views, and a lighthouse. We walked the trails and enjoyed the wonderful temperature.
The locals pronounce this Presk' isle, as if it is one word. As we spoke to people, even if we said this correctly, we were not mistaken for locals.
The Lighthouse, just a light without a house, is located at the end of a breakwater that begins with concrete and ends in rock.
This interesting architectural object is an ore dock. In a part of the world where local towns are called Iron Mountain, Iron River, and Ironwood, iron ore mining continues to be big business.
I love those USGS/COE markers. The rocks are beautiful, sculpted by the lake.
I'm not sure what would tie up to these but must have been something big.
Falls Day
There are a number of falls in and around Marquette. In the write-ups, there are descriptions of how to find the falls and caution about hiking to them. After three attempts, we gave up trying to find the falls.
However, we did see this interesting wooden water pipe below one dam.
