We met Al and Mary Alice Sanders at Corpus Christi State Park and thus began a friendship across time and states. Al and Mary Alice live in Maggie Valley on the side of a mountain with a beautiful stream flowing through their backyard. Notice that I'm wearing my vest and spent most of the afternoon wearing a coat as well. After the beginning of our trip in the heat, we finally made it to the mountains.
Beautiful and so very cool. Al and Mary Alice spent the next few days showing us the sights while Leo and Al attempted ham radio contacts.
Lake Junaluska, Waynesville, NC
Lake Junaluska, originally a retirement community for Methodist ministers, today is a conference and retreat center in Waynesville, NC, near Maggie Valley. A small lake, encircled by a walking trail brought quite a few people out on a pretty afternoon. We enjoyed our walk.
Below is the history of the name of the lake, a statue dedicated to the first swan to appear at the lake, and finally, a labyrinth at a lake-side Methodist Church.
