Across the Mississippi from Lake Village, lies the city of Greenville, Mississippi. We toured two sites, Winterville Mounds and Greenville Cypress Preserve.
Winterville Mounds were a religious and cultural center of the early indigenous people of the area. We have toured other mounds along the Mississippi. The mounds were ceremonial locations, not burial sites. These people would eventually splinter into the tribes of Choctaw, Chickasaw, and others.
The Greenville Cypress Preserve is a cypress brake (bog) purchased by the Greenville Garden Club in the 40s. The area now provides walking trails, boardwalks, and views of the cypress.
On the Arkansas side of the Mississippi lies the Lakeport Plantation.
