Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge - January 18

rvtramm75

Located near Los Fresnos, Laguna Atascosa is the largest protected area of natural habitat left in the Lower Rio Grande Valley. The refuge is a combination of wetlands and coastal plains. Again, the Visitor Center was closed, but the park was open. There were a number of signs reminding people to stay on the trails due to snakes and alligators.

On the day we were there, the Laguna was absolutely beautiful. The picture does no justice to the colors of blue spreading across the Laguna.

While Leo got a Parks on the Air, I walked to the Alligator Pond. I did see the alligator along with some birds and dragonflies.
