Hugh Ramsay Nature Park - January 11

rvtramm75

Hugh Ramsey Nature Park in Harlingen is also a World Birding Center with many good hiking trails. We did see a few birds, turtles, and of course, butterflies.

Areas of the park are being taken over by guinea grass. The grass was imported from Africa for cattle fodder. However, American cattle have different gut enzymes and can’t digest the grass. But, it spreads like wildfire, squeezing out the natives.

The century plant, a massive agave.

A quick walk around our RV park found a few Black-bellied Whistling Ducks.
