June 3rd was our travel day from Alabama to Georgia. And there are a lot of trees in this part of the world and also, many, many people on the roads. Especially in Atlanta, where, when we took the loop around the downtown area, everyone else seemed to be as well.
June 4th was the Augusta Riverfront Farmer's Market. We arrived early and easily. There were very few farmers, but lots of market. And oh the food opportunities there were, from gumbo to shrimp and grits to Filipino to Indian food. Offers to taste sauces hot/sweet/spicy were everywhere. We did buy food, one very large sticky bun!
Augusta has worked to develop its riverwalk area and it shows. On a pretty Saturday morning, joggers/walkers/strollers took advantage of the paved walkway. We also saw an alligator floating along the Savannah River.
Close to the riverwalk area is the Augusta Commons. On this day, a summer give-a-way program was taking place, sponsored by the city and private corporations. They were giving away laptops and bicycles.
We walked downtown Augusta, visiting the James Brown statue, the confederate monument, and some beautiful architecture. They have taken a wide city street and inserted trees, fountains, and walkways.
