Galveston Island State Park – December 20-27

rvtramm75

Spending Christmas in Galveston sounded like a good idea. We didn’t expect to have the RV rocking with the wind gusts out of the north, hitting us broadside. We even brought in the slides to keep them from rocking and to reduce the floor space to keep warm. There were at least two days we could walk comfortably on the beach.

Sadly, we got the news of another loss while we were in Galveston. My friend and mentor, Lita Watson, passed away on December 20th. I have known Lita for over 10 years. She directed my early volunteer efforts in the Wichita County Archives and recommended me for board membership with the Museum of North Texas History. I had the opportunity to visit Lita while we were back in Wichita Falls for my sister’s service and I talked to her about a historical marker on December 16th. I will miss her.

While we were at Galveston, we visited with my family in Lake Jackson. How good to get together to laugh and share memories. From left to right, Mark, Matt, Rogers, Becky, and Barbara. Leo was our photographer.

Leo’s son, Charley, came out from Houston on Christmas day. We celebrated with Mexican food. Looking out the window, this looked as though the Ark was being towed into port.

This is our first time back to Galveston at the rebuilt state park. We figured this is our third Galveston visit. We hope our next time may have better weather.
