We did a walkabout in downtown Blanco. The Blanco Bowling Club and Café existed in Blanco since 1947. It is one of the eleven, 9-pin bowling clubs in Texas. 9-pin was brought with the German immigrants to the area. It’s currently closed and, from the sign on the front, appears to be in danger of destruction. We looked inside the window and “renovation, re-open soon” is an understatement.
Also on the Blanco Square is the Old 300 Barbecue. I like their decorated truck. The quilt squares decorating the Textile Studio brighten up the cloudy day. Blanco has a beautiful courthouse, though it is no longer the county seat of Blanco County. Of course, I found a historic marker.
We planned to visit Guadalupe State Park, just west of Spring Branch, Texas. As we approached the park, we were greeted with a sign that said the park was closed.
Some state parks in the area close during this time of the year for as much as a week at a time for hunting. Need to make sure we check the website in the future!
