Traverse City - National Cherry Festival
The National Cherry Festival is a yearly, 9-day event in Traverse City devoted to all things Cherry. There are a variety of events, races, parades, carnival, and all those things that make a festival. We went during the week when very few activities were taking place. We did enjoy the walk along the docks and the amazing boats.
Two things out of the ordinary. First, four-pound boxes of chocolate-covered dried cherries. I've seen chocolate-covered cherries for years at Christmas, but a four pound box of dried chocolate cherries?? No, we didn't buy any.
And second, a very large field of hops.
Cherry Drive
One afternoon, we took a drive through the backroads. We came across cherry orchards, you pick/they pick, and everything cherry-flavored you can imagine. We bought cherries, snacked on the way to the RV, and I made a pie. I've never had or made, a "fresh" cherry pie. Oh, my gosh! It may not look pretty but it was very good.
